Every few months or so a Women’s Arm Wrestling Championship competition will be taking place at 751 (751 Queen St. W.) to raise money for charity, and the competitors don’t hold back, in strength or in spandex. Both prove to be equally important at this rowdy, packed event, as sexy Superheros bust each other’s neck veins up in an attempt to win the title and some street cred.

It’s as cheesy as a Pay-Per-View special from the WWF with all the fun spirit of pillow fighting but way less risk of getting socked (unless you beat a sore loser). And for anyone with a flair for fashion, this is the place to sport that leather bodysuit/spandex onesie/ sparkly muu muu in public and be cheered not booed. Pick a name, an alter-ego and get ready to make a grand entrance to kick ass opening music, and of course play to the crowd as much as your little heart desires.

Steve, the event’s organizer, and Scotty the MC, do it up right and provide a red velvet stage complete with pillows to rest your elbows, a joystick to grab onto for dear life, and emotional support. A gold-spandex gypsy women, black leather banshee, masked avenger, red lace rebel and Pink Mafia Don were some of the featured characters. The reigning champ from last year was carried to the stage on the shoulders of a guy in booty shorts. A Jack Daniel’s face off ensued when the bartender, after pouring shots for her and her competition Anna Von, threw her shot in Anna’s face while Anna downed hers. After the match (which Anna won) the bartender grabbed the JD from Anna’s celebrating hands and poured it on her, a la when people win the Superbowl. Good times, for serious.

This event also raises money for a great cause, The Red Door Women’s Shelter in the east end of Toronto, so your $3 entrance fee and/or $2 registration fee is being put to good use. If that kinda cash breaks your bank, well, it’s time to get a different job. Check out the event’s Facebook page for more info and look out for when the next one will be coming up. The night ends with someone taking home a championship belt, and prizes awarded for best costumes and the like.
