Annelise Handmade Feather Millinery

by Haley Cullingham

Feathered hairbands, landing delicately on well-styled heads all over the city, call to mind associations with both posh society girls of long ago, clambering elegantly out of cabs on long legs in wool coats, and a return to nature. The cozy, elfin feel of fashion inspired by woodland creatures. Annelise Millinery is a local Toronto maker of these flights of fancy, crafting headbands that range from hippie-inspired to unfailingly elegant. Her accessories are an unexpected touch atop free-flowing locks or a milkmaid braid. On her blog she describes which hair colours best suit each piece, as well as the origin of the feathers they’re constructed from. Some favourites include the Flapper Girl in a camel-colour pheasant feather, and the Miss Pamela, a peacock-feather band designed to be worn circlet-style. All the bands are hand-made by Annelise founder Briar. Available on Etsy
