Given the outcome of the most recent election, the future of arts funding in Canada remains uncertain. It is no surprise that given these circumstances, artists and curators around the country are utilizing their creativity to develop alternative resources to fund their projects.

Art Spin is an art crawl style bicycle tour of galleries, performances, and artist studios around the West end of Toronto. They’re taking inspiration from the international network Sunday Soup with crEATe, a community style dinner, on Wednesday, June 8th, at Lula Lounge.

Over dinner, artists will pitch art project proposals. Guests will vote on which pitch they want to see included in one of this summer’s Art Spin tours. The artist who receives the most votes will get to fund their art project with the profits from the dinner.

This grass-roots, micro-funding strategy is an exciting way for art enthusiasts to get directly involved in the creative and curatorial process.

Tickets to crEATe cost $45 for a three course meal (cash bar will be in effect). Tickets must be purchased in advance, which can be done with Paypal at www.artspin.ca (click on the crEATe logo).

Alternatively, email info@artspin.ca or call 416-532-5274 to purchase tickets in person.

crEATe will take place on Wednesday, June 8th at Lula Lounge (1585 Dundas St. W.)
