Arts Events, November 4-7

Wednesday, November 4:
6pm. Regent Park Film Festival, showcasing films made by residents of Regent Park, running till Sunday. Nelson Mandela Public School, 440 Shuter St.

8pm. Ladyfest kicks off with a performance by Grannyboots in the Gladstone Hotel Ballroom. Ladyfest is a festival of arts, music, performance, poetry and politics to celebrate the achievements of Toronto feminists. 1214 Queen St W. Go to ladyfestto.blogspot.com for more info.

8pm. The Belle of Winnipeg is a hilarious and touching original production inspired by the silent film era. The play follows Belle, one of the filles du roi sent from France to Canada in an arranged marriage, as she ditches her hubby at the altar and flees from Montreal to the frontier town of Winnipeg. The only voice in the play is that of the live piano accompaniment! Also showing November 5-7 at 8pm and 11-14 at 8pm at Keystone Theatre. $22, tickets available at the door.

10pm. Dan Deacon @ Great Hall. A Pitchfork favourite, Deacon is famous for his live shows, where he performs on the ground floor surrounded by the audience, and involves them in dance-offs and human tunnels. $10. 1087 Queen St W.

Thursday, November 5:
8pm. Fixt Point presents Tale of A Town, a multimedia performance by Lisa Marie DiLiberto. What happens when a big box store threatens to move into the Parkdale hood disguised as a mom and pop shop? Friday, November 6:
12pm. Jessica Jensen Holiday Sale @ The Gladstone Hotel. She’s fresh off the runways from Toronto Fashion Week, and offering 75% off this weekend only! Also running Saturday, 11am-6pm. 1214 Queen St W.

    Thanks for the shout out about Belle! Just to clarify, Keystone Theatre is the ensemble and the venue is the Winchester Street Theatre in Cabbagetown. (80 Winchester Street – east off Parliament just north of Carlton). Hope to see you there!
