Last winter, on a crisp January night, a Haligonian friend persuaded me to accompany him for an evening of casual tunes in the living room of a small apartment near Beaudry metro. The setting was cozy and eclectic (one bedroom in the place had a rotating bookcase as a door) and when we arrived, numerous guests were already sitting on and around several big couches, all facing a tiny elevated platform in the corner, above which white Christmas lights still twinkled. We settled onto the floor just as Ben Caplan (and Lee Park – violinist extraordinaire, check her out here!) hit the stage; that night I was finally introduced to the charm and uniqueness of Halifax’s flourishing folk music scene.
One year later, Ben Caplan’s career has exploded and following a month of weekly live shows in Toronto, he returns to Montreal on February 27, playing alongside Ottawa’s Amos the Transparent and Montreal’s own Erik Lind & The Orchard at Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent). Nothing warms the (slightly chilly) soul better than good tunes and great company!
Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door, and can be purchased here.
Doors open at 8:30pm and show time is set for 9pm, do it up!
