Bitch Slap is a group exhibition featuring twenty-eight female artists that hail from across Canada and New York. Curated by Derek Mainella, the show will open this Friday at Thrush Holmes Empire (1093 Queen St. West) and it will be fucking legendary. Yep, we are pretty excited for this one and so to make Friday come faster and to give you a better idea of what to expect from the big BS, we will introduce you to a different artist, whose work will be featured in the show, each day this week. First up, Susy Oliveira, a Toronto-based sculptor and recipient of numerous grants from the Ontario Arts Council.

What does the term BITCH SLAP mean to you?
A warranted shake up.

What art will you be showcasing at the show?
I’ll be showing a piece called Have Everything And Die. It’s a sculpture of a head that plays on the intersections of the virtual and the real.

What interests you most in life?
Candy and games.

What oddities do you cherish?
My friends.

Do you remember a perfect day? What did it look like?
Sure, a perfect day includes a bike, a park and a friend.

What do you love most about being a woman?
Is that a real question?

If you were a song on our stereo, what would be playing?
Nina Simone’s Ain’t Got No, I Got Life.

BITCH SLAP WILL BE like_____________________.
The opposite of a sausage fest?
