There’s something about a quiet walk through tall trees that results in an amazing and indescribable sense of calm. What is it about forests? Why are they so important? So special?

In celebration of National Forest Week (Sept. 22 to 28), the Nature Conservancy of Canada presents Why Forests Matter: an event that discusses and explores just that. Taking place this Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the AGO (317 Dundas St. W.), Why Forests Matter will look at forest conservation, forest influences on art and society, the state of Canada’s forests, and more.

Hosted by The Walrus senior editor Rachel Giese, the talk features a ton of great speakers addressing various topics surrounding forests. For example, Broken Social Scene’s Charles Spearin will discuss the sounds within a forest and without; Ontario Forestry Association Executive Director Carla Grant will explore your daily connection to the forest; and Canadian artist Diana Thorneycroft will share what it was like growing up in the Black Forest. Plus so much more!

Tickets are $8 in advance (get them here) or $12 at the door. Starts at 6:30pm!
