This Saturday from 2-4pm, Montrealers can hit up Holt Renfrew to meet the designer, receive an autograph and check out limited edition pieces in the Jean Paul Gaultier boutique.

Jean Paul Gaultier is what we like to call, rebel haute. He breaks the rules, stabbing pins and chains where many would cry, “Mon dieu!” He has been the prized enfant terrible designer of France for the past three decades. Discovered in the early 70s by Pierre Cardin, Gaultier learned how to cut cloth from the best, and then he reinvented French streetwear. His league of loyal followers include Marilyn Manson, Kylie Minogue and film director Peter Greenway, but certainly the most iconic piece is the cone-shaped bra worn by Madonna in her Like A Virgin tour, a design synonymous with the 1980s.

Saturday’s frenzy at Holts also acts as a teaser for The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk which opens at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts June 17 and features 120 ensembles created by Gaultier bewtween 1976 and 2010.
