DIESEL’S DIRTY THIRTY means your ass gets triple X-rated, if you live in Montreal.

Turning 29? Whatever, who cares. Turning 30? Pull out the big guns, and by that I mean douse yourself in Jagger and Vodka until you cry, puke or start a fight. Yes, thirty is a biggie and this milestone is often met with feelings of adult inadequacy, ‘This year I’m going to grow up and not drink my face off every weekend and end up having sex with strange men in alleyways.’ Or you might shed some tears of frustration because you are distressed at being single or hate your job that you should have outgrown at twenty five. On the flipside, maybe you have accomplished all your goals and are perfect. Yay for you. However you are feeling, good or bad – thirty years = massive celebration.

Vanessa King was getting ready for work on the morning of February 20 of this year when she received a text from a friend of hers which read “Dude, Preloved Just burned down.” I guess I am not going to work today, she thought.

But she was not out of a job.

Preloved’s owner Julia Grieve, wanted to keep all of her “phenomenal employees,” so she brought them part time over to production “to work in the trenches.”

DOVE - first it was real beauty, now it’s real life.

We can blame a lot of brands and advertisers for making us feel inadequate about our body and thrusting poor self esteem problems on us in order to push product but when it comes to Unilever and Dove we can only applaud. The Dove Evolution campaign spun around the world millions of times and made women everywhere feel better about the disheartened feelings that come with flipping through a glossy fashion magazine and comparing ourselves to stick thin models while pouting in the mirror.

by Olga

It’s not everyday that a regular girl gets to be treated like a star, so when that day comes I make the most of it! This includes sampling EVERYTHING that comes my way and soaking in every tidbit of info about the wicked new stuff celebs will be taking home with them.

Yorkville romp with IT Lounge

by Olga Barsky
Working for SDTC certainly has its perks. In addition to being surrounded by an amazing team of women, there are certain opportunities that present themselves, which are too darn good to be true. Last week I was invited to check out the IT Lounge at Windsor Arms Hotel with the theme: celebrity survival must-haves for ’08. My interest was peaked...

Thursday came quickly. I got up extra early, picked out my Yorkville best and drowned my stunted lashes in 8 coats of black mascara. I was ready!

TIFFing in Style with Sandra Graham

by Olga Barsky
The first week of TIFF has left us sleep deprived, overly-caffeinated and a little down on ourselves. Five straight days of ogling at the world’s most stylish actors can certainly take a toll on a simpleton’s self esteem. And so, to help us out of the we-have-nothing- to-wear funk, we’ve enlisted the help of Sandra Graham, eBay Celebrity stylist.

Graham, a jewelry and style expert, has dressed the likes Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, and Gweneth Paltrow for swanky red carpet events, and has served as spokesperson for luxury brands Escada and Halston. Needless to say, we’re in good hands.

Art of Fashion

First things first. You know it’s going to be a fantastic event when two of the most important words that the English language has to offer make up the title.

So what is the Art of Fashion? So glad you asked! AOF Inc is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1998 by Michelle Planche, President of Paradigm Events. Over the last ten years, Michelle has devoted much of her time to fostering the careers of Canadian apparel and accessory designers and providing them with much needed platforms for exposure.

Garnier Take Care Dome

by Olga Barsky

I used to believe firmly that you get what you pay for. Nothing good could come for free right? Not necessarily….my mind was changed as soon as SEW WHAT writer Rina Grosman and I stepped foot in the Garnier Take Care Dome, stationed at the CNE.

Upon arrival we were handed our very own beauty “passports” and escorted to the first station – skincare. Here we were greeted by a Garnier Ambassador who gave us the lowdown on trends, Garnier product lines, and personal skin consultations. Recommended products were then marked down in our passports, and off we were to the next booth – haircare.
