Tramp Hall returns this Monday!

Tramp Hall returns this Monday!

by Caitlyn Holroyd

If you’ve yet to attend the lecture series known as Trampoline Hall, this Monday, September 13 is your chance, scholarly ones. Not swayed? This isn’t one of those boring uni lectures you’re forced to attend for credit; it’s a whole other kind of literary event - a fantastic, boozy literary event. We wish our post-secondary education was full of these.  read more...

Tonight at Lula Lounge: a tribute to our favourite western lady

Tonight at Lula Lounge: a tribute to our favourite western lady

by Caitlyn Holroyd

High on the list of famous ladies we love is Patsy Cline. Her signature contralto singing voice, those cutesy western ensembles, that sexy red pout... it’s no wonder she ranks as one of the most influential female singers of all time.

Miss Cline would’ve turned 78 yesterday and to celebrate, Lula Lounge (1585 Dundas St. W.) is hosting a Patsy Cline Birthday Show Spectacular TONIGHT! Putting to shame all those heartfelt karaoke sessions wherein we’ve belted out “I Fall to Pieces,” performers will take to the stage tonight to do their favourite Patsy Cline songs, backed by an all star band.  read more...

At Jack Daniel's 160th Birthday we knocked back shots with Kris Holden-Ried, or the dapper Sir William Compton from The Tudors

We drank JD and coke from a can, we tested out the whiskey sours on offer, swiveled our straw in a fizzy Jack and ginger and, like real hard ass troopers, pummeled back shot after shot. read more...

The Boobyball Story – what is now one of Canada’s top fundraisers started as a promise to one friend.

The Boobyball Story – what is now one of Canada’s top fundraisers started as a promise to one friend.

Tickets to Boobyball Flash went on sale this past Tuesday and have nearly sold out. Last year the Boobyball committee, along with MTV Canada, created a sexy teaser (literally) and it was such a viral hit that it landed on Jay Leno, CNN and the effing VIEW! Without a doubt, Boobyball is the most well attended fundraiser for young women in Toronto – but how did this success story, that has raised nearly a million dollars, start? read more...

Lexus proved that car parties can be really cool parties.

Lexus proved that car parties can be really cool parties.

Last weekend the the new Lexus CT200h (h for hybrid!) rolled into the Distillery and hosted a bash to announce itself as the new car for urban professionals. Aside from circling the swank new vehicles and getting an inside look at the Lexus CT200h design - there were ongoing free concerts that included indie faves The Stills, Paper Lions, Midway State and the mesmerizing Lily Frost. Weekends at the Distillery are usually spent casually strolling into Lileo, grabbing a coffee at Balzac's, perusing the galleries and getting cameo appearances in wedding shots but I guess you could say that this past weekend, the historic cobblestone district got it's engine revved. It was definitely more rock and less saunter. read more...

The Wild Wild West is in Town at this year's Fake Prom

The Wild Wild West is in Town at this year's Fake Prom

by Becca Lemire
This past weekend, the annual Fake Prom brought hordes of youngsters to the beautiful Palais Royale for a heehaw of a good time. If you missed it, well, we feel sorry for you. Aside from wanting to relive the shitty real prom we experienced in high school, this event beckons us back every year as the costumes are always outrageous. When the theme called for wild-wild west - we took it seriously. DJ's DMoney and Shit Le Merde played the songs we wanted to hear from when our parents promed it up to the Gaga generation. Other highlights included portraits and voting for King and Queen - this shit was better than Degrassi! The best part? The historic deck that overlooked the beautiful ocean, glittering from a starry sky. Okay, Lake Ontario - but while we are pretending to be seventeen, we might as well embellish. Ps- check out the sassy Western themed one-liners at www.fakeprom.com and LOL'd mad hard. GIDDY UP!  read more...
