Everyone was buzzing about the THOMAS show this week by recent OCAD grads Drew and Michael Thomas. Toronto Life’s Fraser Abe confided to us that it was the collection that had his curiousity piqued the most while Stephen Wong of Greta Constantine expressed that it was the only show he didn’t want to miss. Apparently half the city felt the same way. Taking our seats along the catwalk, we played a fun game of eye spy, noticing dozens of familiar faces from our Queen West ‘hood including boutique owners Daniela Bosco of Chasse Gardee, Kealan Sullivan of Vintage 69 and Josh Reichmann of Ruins. Of all the shows this week, it was no surprise that this one hosted the best dressed crowd. As the lights dimmed, eerie music began and we suddenly felt as though we were in an episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Eye Weekly’s, Sarah Nicole Prickett described the noise as a “…bat’s death slowed down 800 times.” The clothes were just as spooky. It was all black and white and reminded us of a static television about to announce an apocalypse. The dark eyebrows on all the models made us feel better that we haven’t waxed in awhile and we enjoyed the fact that this show was ridiculously dramatic. Androgynous and angry, but sexy in a city vampire kind of way.
