10pm. The Layover: Tokyo Wednesdays @ Tokyo Bar, 3709 St-Laurent. There’s only one remedy for these steamy Montreal nights: multiple bevies on the terrace at Tokyo, one of the best outdoor spaces on St-Laurent. The Layover, every Wednesday at Tokyo, is hosted by D L Jones. Till 3am. 

THURSDAY JUNE 21

2pm. Bike-in 2012: The Psychedelic Classroom @ McAuslan Patio, 5080 St-Ambroise St (behind the brewery). POP Montreal’s annual fundraiser for Film POP will be a celebration of the 1970s-era 16mm classroom film (think Troy McClure’s educational videos on The Simpsons). Films include: “Shake Hands with Danger” (1970), warning against playing on construction sites; “The Devil’s Toy” (1966), on skateboarding; “Joyride: An Auto Theft” (1976) (self-explanatory); and my personal favourite, “The Mysterious Message” (1982) about the horrors of bad handwriting. The event is FREE, and goes until midnight.

5pm. Vernissage Sans Titre (l’Entre Deux) @ Galerie D’Este, 1329 Greene Ave. Westmount art gallery Galerie D’Este presents an exhibit featuring the work of 13 emerging artists from Concordia University. Artists are David Bellemare, Michèle F. Bérard, Simone Blain, Louis-Pierre Boivin, Matthieu Bouchard, Félipe Goulet Letarte, Sacha Lightbound, Aurelien Monsarrat Chanon, Sophie Murphy, Katerina Pansera, Didier-Atila Pierre-Bélanger, Laura Rokas and Jenny Schade. 

8pm. Destroyer + Sandro Perri @ Rialto, 5723 Avenue du Parc. Vancouver’s Destroyer and Sandro Perri play the Rialto. $20.

5pm. Cool Fest XII.II: Summer Solstice Edition @ La Brique, 6545 Durocher #402. Another edition of Cool Fest, this one celebrating the longest day of the year. Two evenings of musical performances, art installations, a yoga class and, yes, tarot readings! Saturday performers include: Cousins of Reggae, Klondike, Many Mental Mistakes, Deep Space Niles, Tranz Defonce, Ghost Taco, The Human Athlete, Jef Barbara, Joseph Gabereau, Weirding Module and Avec le soleil sortant de sa bouche. Sunday’s line-up features: a yoga class with music by Prime Cuts/Hammond Ri, RAMZI/Baal Astarté, Selfish Implosions, Noir, New Small Dog, Caverns, Steve Jr., Nadine Thouin, Minibloc, Illegal Bodies, Pre Prom Post Prom (Mexico/Atlanta), Gen Heistek and Maussade. Food will be available, stay tuned for menu! Tickets: $10/day, $15/both days.

9pm. Sunfields + Mike O’Brien + Dave Macleod @ Le Divan Orange, 4234 St-Laurent. A trio of Montreal indie acts hits Divan Orange when Sunfields join Mike O’Brien and Dave Macleod.
