“I feel like I came out of the womb planning this shit.”

By Caitlyn Holroyd

Planning is what Anna Von Frances does—party planning, that is: and some of the hottest ones in the city—with her promotion company Pink Mafia. Boasting an all-female cast of employees specializing in the creative side of promotion and entertainment, guaranteed Pink Mafia were behind some of your favourite, and most memorable, nights out.

They've been around for five years, and Von Frances says that it’s taken four of those to figure out exactly what direction Pink Mafia should take. So, she cut out the corporate crap and is sticking to what she’s good at: promotion. However, unlike others in her field, Frances is representing an entire gender—showing them that females can succeed in the tough world of promotion.

According to Von Frances, it’s these watchful eyes that “keep me from becoming a total wreck in this industry,” especially when she’s approached and told how much girls enjoy what she’s doing. For this reason, Pink Mafia focuses on the stuff females like, and leaves the men to do their own thing.

Even the Pink Mafia street team, responsible for putting up posters around the city, is comprised of all girls. This is part of the Pink Mafia image: Von Frances says the girls get a lot of positive attention for being cute, put-together young women rather than a “40 year-old crackhead man.”

As for what’s next for Pink Mafia, Von Frances would like to see her company expand to other cities, and maybe even start a summer camp for young girls. In the meantime, they’ll keep pumping out parties—their latest being The In Crowd at Tattoo Rock Parlour, a Motown Party happening every Thursday night starting August 20.
