Kelly Cutrone Ain't Nothin' To Fuck Wit

Sigh. We'll take it like Whitney.
By Haley Cullingham
We here at She Does The City awoke to a twitter shitstorm this morning. Our tongue in cheek tweet asking people to suggest q's for our interview with "wicked witch of fashion PR" Kelly Cutrone (megaboss powerhouse and expert intern tear-jerker of People's Revolution) was not taken well by the lady herself. Cutrone cancelled the interview, denying us "fifteen minutes of her fucking precious time."
We were, needless to say, surprised-from our perspective, we were merely playing into a media persona Cutrone has crafted for herself on The Hills and The City. A screen cap of the tweet is circling its way around the web, even landing on Toronto Life . We were surprised to see an offhand comment get under this indomitable woman's skin-we admire Cutrone, and certainly didn't mean to offend. But that's the reality of our mediascape-the impersonal becomes personal, the PERSONA becomes personal, and soon no one knows whether they're attributing genuine qualities of character, or merely qualities created by a crafty PR person. Sadly, we lost the interview with Kelly-but surely there will be plenty of opportunities to hear Cutrone speak about her new book and TV show-we just won't get a front row seat this time. Have we learned to keep our mouths shut? Certainly not. Have we learned that having Kelly Cutrone mad at you is way scarier than it looks on TV? CERTAINLY! But sadly, as journalists, the best we can do is stick to our facts and never try to please our interviewee-because it's just too easy to piss people off by accident. Especially on the internet.

Where are your manners?
That was quite unprofessional. Respect your interviewee and remain neutral, regardless of who that person is. I hope you learned your lesson.
You're taking it well!
I have to say you seem to have a good attitude about the situation. It must have been scary as hell to get her mad at you...but hey, it's what brought me (and probably many others) to your site! She even mentioned your site at her book signing - so it's not a total loss! :)
Keep doing what you're doing!

For fun, was following Kelly, found you. Like your site. Well phrased "apology" or statement to Kelly, good for you. Linked to Breanna, Casie, and from Casie, Keri. All 3 get under my skin, ick: so hungry for fame on the internet, but their blogs are so boring. Like your site though. - Julie in Texas

lol. i love her. she's the best. i hope her interview with jian is a good one.
Uuuuh, you should probably
Uuuuh, you should probably refrain from calling your interview subjects wicked witches, even if you genuinely feel they are (somehow I doubt that tongue was so firmly in tweet as you say). Or, at the least, hold off until you've COMPLETED the interview first. The basics of journalism hasn't changed that much now that we're in the interwebs age, has it?
