Last week the city was bustling with fundraisers earning big bucks for worthy causes. The Brownstein's, avec soon-to-be son-in-law Ben Mulroney, held an erotic fishnet stocking and sexy pump stomping cabaret at Browns in Hazelton Lanes, while Liberty Village played host to The Society's boobyball where low cut cocktail dresses and tequila soaked blondes from Bay Street stalked George Stroumboulopoulos and provocatively posed in a BMW Mini – in their minis.

Nuit Blanche

In the past two years of Nuit Blanche, we have swam in muddy waters at Trinity Bellwoods, been mesmerized by floating penguins in bath house pools, stuffed our face with strange cake, been unimpressed by a giant deflating locust, fallen into garbage, peed in the trees, gotten lost, partied with strangers, been spooked, kissed in igloos, had alien encounters and walked with horse heads.

This year expect to get screamed at by psychotic shrieks in Union Station, run into zombies while taking the vomit comet, watch a waterfall cascade through a building, be encompassed by a giant blue bubble, have your fingers greased up from oil puddles around St. Lawrence Market and receive orders from your phone to act artistically.

If you opt for eating chicken wings and guzzling beer in a removed bar at Yonge and Eglinton this Saturday, well you are a fool. Nuit Blanche is not to be missed! Plan your route, don't walk with anyone high maintenance, bring your camera, stalk up on granola bars and red bull and open the door to an entirely bizarre and wonderstruck city. Let's all swallow the blue pill together and take a trip to the absurd, enchanting and sometimes scary land of art.

Dare We Say a New Design District

New York City might have their meat packing district turned martini bar land but guess what...we have a mechanic shop-fish strip turned design district.

For the past year every media outlet has been horny for Ossington. There seems to be no end of press raving about the "emerging" 'hood - we are going to move past that right now!

How can you tell a strip has officially arrived?

Everyone including Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Richard Branson and Matt Damon were throwing enormous bashes while TIFF was raging - so CTV decided to get in on the action and conduct their Canada Walk of Fame. Taking over University Avenue, traffic was diverted for blocks; raising many a middle finger.

A hectic TIFF week = chatting about cock with Director Kevin Smith, dancing alongside Paris Hilton, being shoved by Harvey Weinstein, debating with Deepa Mehta about perceptions of Brampton, taking in a MGMT show in the Holts basement, discussing addiction with Anne Hathaway and falling into an engrossed conversation with Bill Maher about the ridiculousness of religious zealots in bible thumping Florida.

While Jessica Biel has been lingering in Yorkville's Augustina and Queen Latifah has been working out at the Yorkville Gym, we have been on turbo speed trying to suck in as much TIFF as possible; a hunt for the most shocking, amusing and profound.

The Toronto International Film Festival can, at times, be trying to navigate. Occasionally, your enthusiastic anticipation is met with fury; fury that is best summed up by a peer's facebook status:

"(ENTER NAME HERE) wants to punch TIFF in the face."

However, it is this very tangled web of 'how to' that escalates excitement - and if you know 'how to' how to – then all the mad rushing, line ups, scheduling and so forth can be forgiven and, in a slight sadomasochist way, desired.

So to make things easier on those of you who are new to TIFF, here's a mélange of films that we feel you will enjoy and also give you a taste of the range offered in this insanely huge festival that battles Cannes for top film fest. From where we sit, it's undeniably better as you, and I, and your mom get to be some of the first audiences in the world to preview films; a luxury that industry driven Cannes can not provide.
