It’s impossible to hit every party during TIFF, so we handpicked 20 women, whose style and charisma we admire, to be our spies. They’re red carpet ready in five minutes, always on the guest list, and help bring a party to life with their magnetic personalities and endless energy. Each day they’ll report back the juicy details from the night before

Name: Katie Boland

Describe your involvement with TIFF: I am in a movie called Gerontophilia and I love getting dressed up.

The party(ies) you attended last night: The Playback Canadian Hall of Fame Gala Induction Ceremony.

What did you wear? I wore a dress from Cabaret Vintage, the same black shoes I’ve been wearing for the past 10 days, and a pearl bracelet my mom’s oldest friend gave me that came all the way from China!

Describe the crowd using just 3 words: Accomplished, busy, and happy.

Hear anything interesting? Weird? I heard SO MANY interesting things. The event mainly honoured people that Playback was inducting into their Hall of Fame. To hear about these people’s amazing careers and lives was fascinating. The main thing I took away from it was keep going and that it takes a village to build a career, especially in this industry. No one did it alone. Also, everyone thanked their partners and families and said that their children and marriages were their greatest accomplishments. I found that romantic and inspiring.

Celebs in attendance: Norman Jewison, Strombo, Jian Ghomeshi, Xavier Dolan, David Suzuki, Ron James, Joely Collins, Melanie Leishman, Chad Connell.

Most exciting or noteworthy thing that happened: For me, personally, it was that I was chosen as one of Ten2Watch. It was just amazing to be in a room with all those people.

What you drank: This pineapple drink that also tasted like it had pepper in it.

Which statement best describes the party;

  1. Best TIFF night EVER!
  2. WTF just happened? O-M-G….omg. GAHHHH!
  3. Celebrities? Who cares, we danced our asses off and met people from Denmark. So there.
  4. I liked the party favours but not sure it was really a “TIFF” party.
  5. Party was a-ok but then shit got real at the after-after party. Er, not for the internet.
  6. I think I saw someone famous. I dunno.
  7. OB-NOXXXXXXXX-IOUS! Way too many egos.
  8. The night would have been better had I stayed home to organize my accounting. Snoozefest!

BEST TIFF NIGHT EVER. These past 10 days have been wild, and this was a great way to go out. I saw a lot of old friends and people I admire, and got to celebrate a great evening with my friends and family.

If you could do it again, would you change anything?

NO. This was a really well organized event, and that’s harder than it seems at TIFF. Congrats PLAYBACK and CBC!

Final grade / comments: A PLUS PLUS.
