ā€œI’m affirmed in the need for a destination th ā€œI’m affirmed in the need for a destination that exists outside of the shortest and coldest month of the year where people can go and learn about Black theatre and films, and where young people can come in for movie nights and wellness programs and that we can also harness the beauty of the diverse cultures within the Black community,ā€ says Alica Hall, Executive Director of @niacentre, who understands the powerful effect that art can have on transforming individuals and communities. ā€œArt can give us words when we don’t have the ability to articulate what’s happened to us. Art is such an important tool to help us understand ourselves; artists are really amazing as translators of the human experience.ā€Ā

We loved everything that Alica had to say. If you aren't already following @niacentre, get on that! It's the first permanent Black arts centre in Toronto, and while it's still under construction, the powerful programming has already begun, including an installation on exterior of building by @aniquejordan; 'Here Again, At The Crossroads', a major exhibition at @torontounion, which can be experienced virtually, and all the time Nia is sharing work and Black artist stories on their social feeds. Link in bio to read full interview with Alica, and find out how you can get involved.

Anything that adds a splash of colour these days i Anything that adds a splash of colour these days is welcomed. We’ve been enjoying the weekly reveals onĀ @artistprojectto that bring a burst of beauty to our feed, constantly introducing us to new artists, near and afar.Ā

Their weekly curatedĀ 'Screen Time' exhibit is a cultural experience well suited for lockdown life, with themed programs launching every Thursday at noon on IG, and also on theĀ Artist Project site.Ā

If you’re looking for new art for your home (or a way to support Canadian artists) the Artist Project has always prided itself on having art priced at a variety of levels. Who else has fond memories from this annual show? We look forward to when we can attend in real life, but for now...it's a nice diversion that speaks to this era.
