Okpik: Little Village in the Arctic is a stunning Okpik: Little Village in the Arctic is a stunning documentary about one family’s pursuit to becoming fully self-sufficient, living off the land in a remote location on the north end of the Mackenzie River.
.
.
The film starts in Tuktoyaktuk, a remote and isolated community in the Northwest Territories, showing the inadequate housing and hardships that Inuvialiut elders live with, which are direct results of colonialism. We then move to Okpik and see how @kyliksadventures, a “bush man” of Gwitch’in and Scandinavian descent, is creating a a new way of life for his family, and inviting others to join, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
.
Fascinating, comforting, and eye-opening… there are other possibilities to the world most of us know. Link in bio to read our interview with filmmaker @ayaliktiffany.

The doc plants a seed of what life could be like, a blueprint that you may be inspired to follow, even just a little bit. The film is being released on @cbcgem in both English and Inuvialuktun - a first for the network.

In this piercing and powerful essay, Charlotte Sch In this piercing and powerful essay, Charlotte Schwartz writes about the complex conversations around people becoming caregivers to their sibling with a disability. This piece was one of the most-read stories from last month, and deals with a subject that so many people are afraid to talk about. We admire Charlotte for her honesty, and for daring to start important conversations.

Charlotte Schwartz is a family law clerk and parent of four children in a blended family. She is an advocate for equal, shared parenting time in separated families and for strong co-parenting relationships. Her first book about co-parenting, Your Place or Mine, will be published by Dundurn Press in September 2022. When she has time, she loves to run aimlessly at low speeds and she is always tired. We’re lucky that she occasionally shares her wisdom with us. Link in bio to read the full piece.
