Cash-strapped style mavens are getting spoiled as yet another discount design collection hits stores this week. Local designer Philippe Dubuc has teamed up with Quebec department store Simons to create 16 pieces for the store’s Icône line. Black and ash figure prominently in this somber, edgy collection of structured skirts, reversible jackets, 2-in-1 dress/tunics, and lambskin/knit sweaters. I have my eye on the “perfecto shirt” (pictured, $250), a glossy, zippered, asymmetrical topper that could easily double as an early fall jacket.

Though Dubuc for Icône is relatively easy on the wallet (with prices ranging from $75 to $275), not to worry if you’ve blown your back-to-school budget on books, booze and Bedo; the line marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between Dubuc and Simons.

Dubuc for Icône line hits Simons stores (977 Ste Catherine W & other locations) Wednesday, September 8.
