British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay – known as much for his gutter-mouthed rants as for his mouth-watering cooking – will be taking over Outremont’s Rotisserie Laurier BBQ (381 Laurier W) early next year.
A Montreal institution, Laurier BBQ has been serving up BBQ chicken, ribs and sugar pie since 1936. Ramsay plans to keep the comfort food, but up the ante by adding a full bar and new and improved sound system, making the family-style eatery a little more upscale. The resto will close in January for renovations, the plan being to start dishing out drumsticks by February.
Ramsay, star of the reality cooking shows like Hell’s Kitchen and the F Word, has 25 restaurants across the globe, but this will be his first Canadian location. And dry your tears, Toronto; the plan is to roll out a series of Ramsay-rotisserie joints across Canada later on in 2011.
