Buy some seedlings, buy a condo? Sure, why not? It’s a little weird, but we love us some urban gardening, and this and next weekend, the 109OZ Lofts presentation centre is hosting an Urban Garden Pop-Up Shop. We’re usually mighty skeptical of condo developments, and they’re always trying to ingratiate themselves with the ‘hood. Usually the result is a painfully awkward ad campaign, but 109OZ has planned a series of summer pop-ups that we actually want to attend. Condo-developer-folks, take note.

The 109OZ Urban Garden Centre is open to the public, and will offer free workshops on vertical gardening, container gardening, organic farming, and more. There will also be an outdoor market, where you can buy all your garden fixins. Given the level of excitement induced by the first flower blooming in my wee outdoor garden this weekend (pure elation, I tells ya), I can safely say that gardening is an excellent summer project. Just in case you needed convincing.

The coolest part about this pop-up? A panel of awesome green-thumbed experts, offering free workshops and lectures. Get advice on using green roof technology in vertical gardens and movable planters from Scott Torrance Landscape Architects, tips from gardening expert and author Steven Biggs, gardening secrets from Ronces shop Sweetpea’s, take an organic farming workshop with Fresh City Farms, or a raised container workshop from the Backyard Urban Farm Co
