Lets face it: not everyone can look like Natalie Portman when they’re pregnant. Or even our own local girls about town Amanda Blakely & Ashleigh Dempster.

These women were simply born to look hot. Full stop. Being pregnant is like a chic accessory for them. For the rest of us the 9 months with babe can cause some major anxiety when it comes to dressing for events, parties or red carpets.

It’s my third pregnancy and I’m not afraid to say it; I gained 70lbs with my first baby, had no time between number one and number two to lose it and am knocked up again. As you can imagine I have ballooned to proportions that are just flat out wrong. I think my clothes might even have stretch marks.

Sure sure, you’ll see me and think; ‘She looks great.” “She’s so cute,” but all I’m thinking is; “Damn, when did one of my thighs get big enough to feed a small army?!”

Between the weight gain, the varicose veins and the wicked stretch marks, it ain’t easy feeling pretty.

In fact, there are days when I feel outright ugly. So when the time came for me to dress myself for TIFF and an upcoming wedding, I slightly panicked. How does a 7-month pregnant woman look hot on the red carpet? Where do I buy a dress?

Thank the universe for Evymama.

It’s rare that I rave about any boutique, but the first time I stepped into this Bloor West gem, I actually felt a weight lifted off my shoulders.

Forget that it’s a pregnancy and nursing boutique for one second and trust me when I tell you the service is the best.I.have.ever.received.anywhere. Nursing bras are sexy, dresses are hot, and office wear is stylish. This isn’t your grandma’s maternity boutique.

Evymama dressed me for TIFF and I actually felt not just hot, but smokin’ hot. I may not be Natalie Portman, but with the help of some pregnancy Spanx and a perfectly cut dress, I was red carpet ready.

Some tips I learned while shopping at Evymama:
-Buy clothes that fit. Nothing makes a pregnant woman look bigger than an oversized muumuu.
-Accentuate the belly. Any dress or top should fit snug around the belly so that no one mistakes you for simply being fat. Form-fitting is always more flattering than really loose.
-Buy an excellent fitting bra that actually lifts your boobs—this will make you look 10lbs slimmer instantly
-Your new waist is directly under your breasts now (empire waist) so if you’re using a belt or sash in anyway ALWAYS belt above your belly.
-Accessorizing is key. Big necklaces draw the eyes upwards and towards your face. If you’re dressing all in one colour (recommended) you can use accessories’ to add splashes of colour.
-Show off the parts that you love. Great legs? Go with short dresses. Ripped arms? Try sleeveless looks. Loving your new pregnancy cleavage? Opt for a low-cut top.
-Splurge a little. You’re only pregnant once (or twice or thrice…) but seriously investing in one gorgeous outfit or dress that you feel incredible in is worth every penny.
-Wear the hell out of your perfectly fitting outfits/dresses and flaunt it while you got it!
