Here at Shedoesthecity, we pride ourselves on being thrifty but if you are looking for an investment piece, or something that instantly adds sophistication no matter what you are wearing, then a trench coat might just be the classic staple to splurge on. That said, we have mistaken H&M for Burberry.

1. Urban Outfitters’ “Around the World” collection is bringing high fashion to the store with Sessun’s cropped trench. Wear it with eye-catching floral skirts or white denim to stand out, or black skinny jeans to blend in. $285, Urban Outfitters

2. Patterson J. Kincaid’s double breasted trench is perfect for a light spring day. Wear this timeless olive colour with salmon pink or bright orange. Trust us, everyone will be like, “ooooh, you look good!” $200, Shopbop.com

3. Topshop’s tangy peach trench will flatter all body types with its cinched waist and a-line cut. Be daring and courageous with this jacket by pairing it with wide-flared jeans. $180.00, Topshop

4. Ports 1961 gives a classic, utilitarian trench a kick in this dune-coloured loose-fitting wonder. Combine it with light-coloured narrow pants; all beige all the way for spring! Just don’t spill any coffee on yourself. $1,267.37, Shopbop

5. Who said trench coats had to be expensive? Head over to the Gap for classic trenches with a modern twist. Prance in Toronto’s mild weather with this relaxed soft trench and a pair of dark fitted pants. $89.50, Gap Canada

6. H&M reinvents the belted beige trench by adding ruffles for a look that cries, “Pay attention to detail!”  Work this one out with black high heel booties, a tee, and cut off denim shorts, or dress it up for a job interview. H&M, $78

P.S: Ever tried surprising a special someone with only lingerie under your trench? This is highly advised. Go for the complicated lacey stuff.
