Writing a song that represents an entire city is no easy feat. In a city as diverse and vibrant as Toronto, how do you possibly convey what living here means to so many people?

CBC Toronto recently issued a challenge to GTA musicians, asking them to write an original song about Toronto, or The 6ix. The response was overwhelming and hundreds of people entered. After a public vote, 12 musicians made the shortlist. A CBC judging panel crowned 21-year-old Britney Davis the winner for her track, From the 6ix.

Davis comes from a Jamaican background, a major source of inspiration for her winning song. It is largely about Toronto’s rich diversity and inclusive attitude. She won $10,000, a professional recording and a CBC-produced music video for her work. We’re loving the track – check it out below:
