TIFF Cinematheque Ontario has launched a curated series based on their recent poll of the most important films of the past decade. An incredibly astute panel of sixty film curators, historians, archivists and programmers from festivals, cinematheques and related organizations from around the world participated in the poll, creating an ultimate “best of the decade” list of films that you probably haven’t heard of.
Running Jan. 21 until Feb. 23, the series will screen 38 of the 54 films that made the list and word is that several filmmakers will be making appearances. The list includes works by Agnes Varda, Ingmar Bergman, Jean-Luc Godard, Pedro Almodóvar, Gus Van Sant and David Lynch, along with Canadian filmmakers David Cronenberg for A History of Violence, Guy Maddin for The Heart of the World and My Winnipeg, and Zacharias Kunuk for Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner.
