Culturally Specific (And Universally Understood): Asian-Canadian Storytelling On Screen

As part of TIFF’s Share Her Journey commitment to spotlighting more women both behind and in front of the camera, a new event will bring together four stellar Asian-Canadian writers for a conversation on film.

Next week, Vanessa Matsui (Ghost BFF), Andrea Bang (Kim’s Convenience), Jennifer Liao (End of Days, Inc.) and Vivian Lin (Killjoys) will converge at TIFF Bell Lightbox for the second edition of Connecting Across Cultures: Celebrating Asian Canadian Storytellers. Moderated by author Carrianne Leung, they’ll dig into the ways identity is considered when writing dialogue, and flesh out the process behind building characters and creating storylines that are culturally specific–yet universally understood.

Connecting Across Cultures: Celebrating Asian Canadian Storytellers takes place at TIFF Bell Lightbox at 7 p.m. on October 28th. Grab tickets here.
