Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and naps/making out/a plate of nachooooooos!! Brown paper packages, tie-dye and Sting: these are a few of my favourite things!!! Well some are, anyway. Some are, presumably, Rogers and Hammerstein’s. And to be honest R&H, whiskers seem a bit suspect…I guess on kittens they’re fine—it’s just…seals. But I digress. One person’s “chocolate cake” is another’s “seal whiskers,” probably, and Art in Transit wants to celebrate it all, with their Open Call Photo Exhibit My Favourite Things

Curated by Sharon Switzer, My Favourite Things is a celebration of just that—those delightful objects or moments that you would classify as your faves. They are the things in this world that give you that feeling. You know the one I mean: the one where the sun is shining in the depths of your belly, radiating out in some kind of real-world iteration of the thing the Care Bears did with their tums. That feeling. It could be anything: a tree in your backyard, the spine of a well-loved book, a color-coded spice rack, that freckle on your partner that makes you want to jump their bones, your super grotey hempship bracelet from 1994. Whatever it is, Art in Transit wants to hear from you.

From now until October 25th, submit your photos on My Favourite Things Flickr page – and Pattison Onestop will showcase selected entries on their network of over 300 digital screens in malls across the country (and you thought your Instagram had reach!). The project is one of many sponsored by Art in Transit, which has the right-on goal of sharing inspiring and thought-provoking art with busy city-dwellers, possibly even transporting them momentarily out of their daily routines. And what better time to take stock of those things that bring you joy than now, as you finish off your fifth round of Tofurky leftovers from Giving Thanks all weekend?

So dust off that analogue Canon, dip into your Insta-archives, and generally “go all Rogers and Hammerstein!” with Art and Transit, as they invite you to celebrate your Favourite Things.
