My mum spent years trying different balances of bread crumbs and ground beef and onions before developing this recipe for the best homemade hamburger:

3lb medium ground beef
salt
pepper

…that’s it! It’s that easy.

Mix together and portion into either eight 6oz patties or six 8oz patties, depending on the size of burger that you want. Make a small depression in the middle of the burgers to help keep them flat as they grill.

Grill the buns and top with your favourite condiments. Try shaking it up by using a tasty cheese like blue or gruyere or swiss. Grill some onions, sautee some mushrooms, and consider the merits of bacon. Be creative.
