ART
Saturday – Opening @ Vancouver Art Gallery: Robert Adams, well-established B&W photographer, chronicles the degradation of the natural environment as Suburbia sprawls over Western America’s landscape. The exhibition features over 300 photographs, many with a real vacant-American-dream feel, yet also featuring the sublimely beautiful moments that shine through in the face of despoliation.
Saturday – Craftivism (DOWNSIZED) art show; canvases reduced to 8×8 in ‘honour’ of arts cuts, and discounted to $110. Sip a glass of wine and peruse great little pieces before dinner! 6 to 8pm @ Raw Canvas, 1046 Hamilton St.
All Weekend – SFU’s new School for the Contemporary Arts on West Hastings at the former Woodward’s site, part of a hopeful move to shine up a degraded area, is hosting an Open House to showcase the work of students, 30 years of award winning short films, performances and the new facilities. Like taking a peek in on another world, or art, or spaces in general? Check it out, FREE and Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
