ShenkinWest, which began as a small boutique in the basement of co-founder Ellie Stern’s home, has relocated above ground. The Toronto-based store, which carries exclusively Israeli designers, celebrated with an opening fête at its new home (1726 Avenue Rd.) this past Monday.

The store’s humble beginnings stem from its founders’ desire to provide women with a refreshing selection of clothing that brings the vibrant styles of Tel Aviv’s “It” street, Shenkin, closer to home. The unapologetically driven quartet behind ShenkinWest (Ellie Stern, Abby Feferman, Susan Hennick, and Jesse Markowitz) offers a colourful selection of Israeli fashion that caters to both classic and avant garde tastes in unique styles.  Don’t live in Toronto? Fear not, for the boutique also takes orders across North America, keeping both national and across-the-border customers happy.

What 5th Avenue is to New York City, Shenkin Street is to the Mediterranean coastal city of Tel Aviv. Lined with outdoor cafes, white-washed and pastel-coloured apartments, and beautifully curated boutiques, Shenkin Street is the perfect mix of energy and leisure. Serenity now!

From Kedem Sasson’s flowy and luxurious tailoring to new-on-the-scene jewelry designer Michal Ben-Ami’s collection, ShenkinWest will transport you to the street that started it all. Best part? After you complete your shopping adventure, you can take a power nap on the store’s bright yellow lacquered couch. Close your eyes and imagine yourself sitting on the Tel Aviv sand, drinking an iced coffee under the Mediterranean sun—no passport required.

Store hours are Monday to Thursday 10am-6pm, Friday 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm.  ShenkinWest is closed on Saturdays.
