You’re going to be hearing a lot more Kiki Rowe very, very soon (if you haven’t already). The Mississauga-born artist’s latest track, Come My Way, features Khalil, and she was listed by Toronto Life and Toronto Star as “One to Watch.”

We caught up with her this week.

SDTC: What should we be paying more attention to?

KR: I think we should be paying more attention to what’s actually going on in the world. I feel like some people get so caught up with their own lives that they forget there’s a whole world with issues out there.

What was the last Netflix series you binged on?

I know I’m super late but it was Vampire Diaries.

One new thing you learned this year?

As far as my music career goes, one thing I finally grasped is that it takes time and you can’t stress when certain things don’t go your way because it could ruin everything. You have to stay positive and keep going.

What childhood memory brings a smile to your face?

Wow, I had a lot of those. One of them would be that I used to play soccer and this one weekend I had the whole team sleep at my place and it was raining and we all went outside and played on the field by my house and didn’t care about the rain or mud. After that we all went back to my house and jumped in my pool! It was amazing.

Another one would be when I lived in one of my first houses (I move around a lot). Our basement wasn’t finished and we had the cement floor and me and my friends painted a hockey rink and would play roller hockey down there.

What book/song/lyric/etc is resonating with you right now?

The lyric from the song “Scared to be Lonely” – Martin Garrix: “Is the only reason you’re holding me tonight cause we’re scared to be lonely?”

I love it because it’s just super relatable.

Describe the funniest thing you’ve experienced in recent memory.

I went to the movies with mom, sister and my manager. We went to see the new Vacation movie and during the “chug run” scene my mom had an uncontrollable laughing attack. The whole theatre was laughing at her laugh instead of the movie!

Best advice you’ve been given?

From my mom: “If you don’t try, you will never know.”

What is the best part of being your current age?

Finally being able to drink in the U.S. (Just kidding…but not really.)

What word or phrase should we use more often?

With everything going on in the world right now, I wish we’d all use the word “peace” a little more.

What attitude/trait bothers you the most in other people?

Cocky and rude.

How have you changed in the last year?

I finally got my own place so I had to start doing a lot of things that I didn’t have to in the past. So I guess I’ve matured a little.

Your biggest music industry pet peeve?

How some women are treated. It’s not easy being a female in this industry.

What trends are you loving right now?

Not sure if it’s a “trend,” but I’m really into vintage windbreakers right now. I have six new ones I just got.

Who was your celebrity crush when you were a kid?

Taylor Lautner when he was in Sharkboy and Lavagirl

What do you love about Toronto?

I love the music scene, the diversity and the food!
