Between free shows you wander into by accident and pricey concerts you invite your parents to, there’s so many fabulous offerings at this week’s Jazz Fest that we had to devote an entire Hit List to it!

Thursday
7:00pm: Aggrolites @ Club Soda ($22.50)

8:00pm & 10:00pm: Chic Gamine @ Scène Rio Tinto Alcan (Free)

10:00pm: Dessa @ Scene Bell (Free)

11:59pm: Land of Talk @ Club Soda ($18)

Midwest spoken word poet and singer Dessa treats us to a free show in support of her debut solo album, A Badly Broken. Later on, local indie trio Land of Talk will give us a sneak peak at their forthcoming album.

Friday
7:00pm: Bobby Bazini @ Club Soda ($22.50)

9:00pm: Wanda Jackson @ Astral ($27)

9:00pm: Mississippi Heat @ Scene Loto-Quebec(Free)

Wanda Jackson, the First Lady of Rockabilly struts her fabulous 72-year old self at Astral (Never heard of her? Suggested introductory track: Tunnel of Love, a sweet summer tune), while local R&B guitarist Bobby Bazini graces Club Soda. Or, if you’re feeling broke, Mississippi Heat will play a free show at Scene Loto Quebec. Their last performance at the Fest attracted 27 000 people, this year they’re hoping for at least 27 001!

Saturday
7:00pm: Elisapie Isaac @ Club Soda ($27)

8:00pm & 10:00pm: Victor Démé @ Scene Bell (Free)

A folk-rock-disco singer who sings in English, French and Inuktitut, Elisapie Isaac defies categorization. She’ll be joined on stage by a string quartet to play songs from her debut solo album, There Will Be Stars. Afterward, dance the night away to the sweet sounds of Victor Démé, purported owner of “the sweetest voice in Burkina Faso.”

Sunday
7:00: CandyRat Records Showcase @ Théâtre Jean-Duceppe ($36)

8:00 & 10:00pm: Amanda Martinez @ Scène Rio Tinto Alcan (Free)

Guitarists will be taking the stage by storm at Théâtre Jean-Duceppe for the closing night of the Montreal Guitar Show, devoted to the independent American CandyRat Records label. Featuring Craig D’Andrea, Ewan Dobson, Antoine Dufour, Gareth Pearson and Don Ross. Afterwards, Toronto-based pianist Amanda Martinez plays two free shows on Sunday, featuring songs from Amor, released last fall.
