I’m always on the hunt for a slice of green in the urban hub I call my home. It’s cool to be downtown and in the center of things, but sometimes there’s nothing better than a little park lounging. That’s why I was delighted to discover the Andy Livingstone Park right behind my house.
I know, I know, a park on Expo Boulevard bordered by Carrall? Before you question my sanity, go check it out yourself. The Crosstown community is slowly building its reputation past “that block on Beatty where Chambar’s located”. Consequently, you’ll find a mix of skaters, yuppies, and artists all chilling around the grassy slopes and by the creek. It’s a totally serene space that will make you forget you’re in the middle of downtown, and allow for that R&R only nature can provide.
If you’re feeling guilty after an indulgent weekend, grab a tennis racket and head to the courts. There’s a wicked skate park under the Georgia Viaduct if you’ve kept up the skill past trying to impress that guy when you were sixteen. Or just grab some dim sum to go from TNT supermarket and a few cans of beer for an impromptu afternoon picnic. Whatever you choose, you better get to it. Those last rays of summer are waning, and come November you’ll be kicking yourself for not spending more time outside.
