Have you heard of Sellers & Newel?  Do you ever walk along College Street?  If you answered no to either of these questions, there’s a chance you may need a little direction.  That’s okay.  We’re put on this earth to help one another, and no one’s judging you.  Let’s move on.

Sellers & Newel have got it going on, in terms of really neat books.  What really sets a bookstore apart is its attention to detail and curation.  Peter and David have their eyes peeled for interesting, affordable books.  Having suffered many the hour of inner turmoil over heating the apartment or buying the book, David put me straight.  You don’t have to buy all the books you see, and while being poor can cause the heart to long for more, more, more books, so be it.  When you have to spend deliberately, you build a deliberate library.  

The buck-a-book mini shopping cart out front makes for an easy route to quantity over quality, but even those rogue readables are in pretty good taste.  Venture indoors when you have more than a dollar in the book budget, but fear not, every volume that catches your eye has a reasonable price tag.  And don’t forget to ask, ask, ask to your heart’s content – David and Peter are more than happy to make recommendations, or just regale you with their literary (+more) adventures!

Though it makes me shudder to actually type out this cliché, this store has something for everyone.  Because everyone has an interest — at least one! — and Sellers & Newel cater to the specific.  Check out their cracker-jack women’s lit section, that whole shelf of Joyce, the stack of “the films of…” books, comics galore, and big, gorgeous tomes that sneak up on you and push groceries down a little further on the list of essentials.  Man cannot live on bread alone, after all.  Ramen, maybe.
