Paws for the Cause held its 3rd annual fundraising gala at 99 Sudbury and this year it was hosted by famous dog, Maddie The Coonhound. (I mean, why not?) Maddie is a regal looking pup who is diligent with being photographed while posing on things: trucks, phone booths, signage, sticks, giant turtles and people. Perhaps a Toronto first, but partygoers were very eager to get down on all fours and have Maddie do her thing. (POSE ON THEM! My God….what the hell were you thinking?? Pervert.)

Organized by Laura Serra, and her enthusiastic dog-loving committee, the event this year raised money for the Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic, which helps to subsidize the cost of pet surgeries to members of the community.

Paws for the Cause is a unique event because it brings together both the dog and fashion community. In past years, dogs sported coats and cardigans by local designers; this year things got a little wild. From ombre highlights in blue and purple to bedazzled fur and pink feathered boas, the pups on parade were certainly a sight to see. The catwalk had an elegant range of well behaved breeds and owners beamed with pride.

Beyond cooing at the pet fashion show, guests had a lot of fun posing with a giant cut-out of Maddie. “Let’s pose under her!” “Look, I’m carrying Maddie around the party!” “Should I hold her like this or like this?” “OMG, Josh is dancing with Maddie.” Why is this the first time we’ve seen this kind of party favour at a Toronto gala? FROM NOW ON, ALWAYS HAVE A GIANT CUT-OUT!

Another smart idea was the Joe Fresh Kiss Kiss Wall. Guests were invited to put on their best pouty mouth and smooch a wall with proceeds going towards the cause. FUN! WE LOVE SMOOCHING MIRRORS, WINDOWS AND WALLS! Seriously.

It was a tail-wagging good time and everybody left with a bone. Woof.
