The bookshelves are musty with the smell of old paper and old thoughts. As she pushes her book cart along, returning books to their rightful place, she thinks about the man with the blue eyes. She loves the way he calls her “Baby”, the way his hands feel around her waist. She is in love, bitten, and she knows it.

The library is pregnant with thoughts and a million silent conversations all happening at once. She can feel the words as they pass through the minds of the people sitting in this house of books. “Who am I “, she wonders. “What does this love mean? My thoughts are all dedicated to him and my body follows suit. Every cell, every breath is reserved for him. Does he feel the same? As her mind wonders she can feel two hands run along the back of her plaid dress and around her waist. The heat of his arms penetrates the thick wool and she is instantly flushed. She slowly turns and his blue eyes meet her. She smiles, her questions answered and her heart full…

Plaid or tartan has quite a lengthy history. Often associated with kilts and Scottish heritage, tartan can be traced as far as the middle of the fifth century. It is defined as “a woolen cloth woven in one of several different patterns of plaid.” Back then; it was used as means of distinguishing between different clans within Scotland. Today tartan has evolved and become a classic in any wardrobe. Weaving in and out of fashion history one of tartan’s more popular periods was the fifties and sixties. During this time everything from simple day dresses to a child’s jumper was available in many different colours and styles of plaid.

Gaining great popularity once again, the Fall 2008 runways were littered with plaid. Everyone from Dolce and Gabbana to DSquared to Marc Jacobs had everything from pants, dresses and coats available in the print. Designer Whitely Kros has also created a beautiful blazer in a great black and white plaid, perfect for over a sleek pencil skirt or jeans.
