Having curly hair is like having a high maintenance pet you always have to attend to. Turn your back for one second and you’ll be untangling for hours! I have come to embrace my naturally curly hair but I also welcome a straight, sleek style with open arms, especially during the summer. It just feels more polished (no offense curls, but by midday I feel like this when I rock you).

I was whisked away to Aveda HQ for a glam blowout, makeover, and had my portrait shot by Aveda Canada CEO Ray Civello. 8 other ladies-with-hair were asked to participate, like Aliya-Jasmine Sovani, Gracie Carroll and Nelia Belkova, and Ray’s black and white photography collection was unveiled at a launch party at Hotel Ocho.

Aveda’s Naturally Straight works from the very first usage, and when used before you straighten your hair with a flatiron or blow dryer, it will keep your hair straighter for longer. Usually if I go to bed with my hair straight, I wake up with it curly again. My hair stayed straight over night when I used Naturally Straight the first time, which is basically a miracle. I may as well have seen Jesus on a Dorito chip.

With regular use of Naturally Straight, it will loosen your curls over time. After a few weeks of using Naturally Straight, my curls started to un-curl and hung straighter and sleeker, which was way easier to manage and made my hair look longer. The great part about Aveda’s Naturally Straight is that it doesn’t damage hair and isn’t permanent. When I stopped using it, after a few washes my hair returned to it’s normal curly texture. Now I use Naturally Straight about once a week for a curly style, that’s more manageable.
