From November 1st to January 19th, fans of legendary Canadian director David Cronenberg can immerse themselves in the world of his films at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

The first exhibit curated entirely by TIFF, Evolution weaves together the development of Cronenberg’s filmmaking and his fascination with the evolution of humanity. The exhibit is broken down into three sections: Who Is My Creator?, Who Am I? and Who Are We?

Who Is My Creator? will focus on the origins of Cronenberg’s career, from early shorts to his breakthrough work. Themes explored will include the search for paternal figures, agency of sexual impulses, and virology. Who Am I? marks a period of turning these themes inward. In the films that make up the middle portion of his career, Cronenberg’s characters’ fascination with evolution becomes embodied. This section will also connect Cronenberg’s work to other 20th century artists like William S. Burroughs. The third section of the exhibit, Who Are We?, sees Cronenberg’s characters carrying his themes into a social context. The end of the exhibit features autobiographical shorts.

Tickets for the exhibition are already on sale. Regular admission is $15, student tickets are $12, and Tuesday admission is $5. To pair the exhibit with a screening from From Within: The Films of Cronenberg, tickets are $20.
