This week, design invades Toronto. And while you may only have designs on curling up in your bed in long johns and watching Girls on repeat until the cold snap lifts, there’s just too much cool  (heh. Heh heh.) stuff going on to hibernate. If you can’t go a day without checking Apartment Therapy, then this is your week.

The hub of design buzz will be the Interior Design Show, now in its 13th year. IDS is a large-scale design fair that showcases innovations from home and away. General exhibition days are from the 26th-27th, and tickets are $19 online or $22 onsite. Some things we’re especially excited for? The designboom mart (“the original, first-ever design bazaar”), entrance exhibit by Chicago designer Willy Chyr, and How Do You Work?, an exhibit where designers (Blacklab Architects, Dubbeldam Architecture + Design, Igloodgn, Samare Studio and Joel Loblaw) will interpret the concept of a workspace. The Opening Night Party, on Thursday, Jan 24th, is always a fun see-and-be-seen event, and gets you a free preview of the exhibits! Tickets are $55 online and $60 onsite.

But IDS isn’t the only way to gorge on good design this week. For the third year in a row, the indie Toronto Design Offsite Festival pops up all over the city, with over 40 exhibitions over seven days (Jan 21-27). There are events, exhibits, prototypes, immersive installations, workshops, and more. Toronto Design Offsite is a not-for-profit organization, and they bring together great design in an accessible way: Most events are free. Check out the Festival Google Map to plan your routeThe festival launches this weekend in the Junction, Toronto’s cool-kid design neighbourhood, and the free opening party is Wednesday, Jan 23rd at Lightform, 267 Niagara St.
