In this installment of our #FrontStreetFoods Meet The Makers series, we chat with the founder of Miche Bakery, Michelle Rose.

Where did your company idea originate from?

I worked overnights at hotel making all the breakfast pastries. Same thing. Day in. Day out. I started experimenting with new recipes, trying them out on my coworkers, perfecting them, tinkering around until they were just how I wanted them, and then I decided it was time to start working for myself and creating my own menus.

What do you love most about your business?

I love the creativity it allows me. I go to the market, get inspiration and go to the kitchen to experiment with flavours and textures, and hopefully sell them to a customer that really loves it. Also, running your business is so much more gratifying and rewarding than working for someone else.

What’s the easiest way to describe your food?

Classic with a twist.

What is your brand all about?

All handmade, handcrafted, seasonally inspired.

Please share/list some menu highlights that you will be serving this summer at Front Street Foods.

Donuts! The Homer, S’more, Donut Kebabs, and some rotating fun flavours.

When someone says “summertime food,” what do you think of?

Grilling, eating al fresco, picnics in High Park.

Favourite seasonal ingredients?

Peaches and berries in the summer. Citrus in the winter and chocolate all year round.

Can you share with us one of your kitchen rules?

CLEAN AS YOU GO!

Favourite summertime drink?

Mojito. We even make a virgin mojito spritzer at our booth. Very refreshing.

Current life motto?

Work hard, vacay hard.

What’s on your summer bucket list?

To finally do the CN Tower Edge Walk.

Anything else you’d like us to know about you? Include anything from your craziest market experience to a customer story.

Lunch at the very top of Victoria Falls (after jumping into the Devil’s pool). Greatest experience of my life!

What excites you most about the market?

I think baking all through the night and then manning my booth all day at Front Street Foods is pretty crazy. It’s how I roll.

Front Street Foods is open all summer long (Monday to Friday from 7am-9pm, Saturday 11am-9pm and Sunday 11am – 6:30pm). Be sure to stop by Miche Bakery for a Donut Kebab!
