Gone Swimming: Toronto Summer Swimwear

Whether it’s Ward’s Island, a week away, or just sneaking into your next door neighbour’s pool, we’re officially declaring it swim time. Right now, we’re loving bikinis and one pieces with a signature retro edge. Here’s how to bring a little nostalgia to your next pool party.

High waists: Your first instinct may be to say, “Woah, wait….GRANNY PANTIES?” but we assure you, there is nothing octogenarian about these briefs whatsoever. Hitting you at your natural waist, they provide coverage as well as giving you that cinched waist feeling. Check out American Apparel and Minnow Bathers for some great highed waist bikini styles in youthful colours and patterns.

The one piece: Though it may have been cooler to frolic in your itty bitty bikini, the one piece is anything but dowdy. Try one with a plunging Marilyn Monroe-esque halter, or embrace your inner 80’s kid with a cut-out monokini in an acid bright colour. Rifle through the racks at Robber for some cool finds.

Patterns: Try embracing kooky and psychadelic prints for a look that is completely on trend with this summer’s bohemian vibe. The suits over at Tosca Delfino, House of Vintage, and 69 Vintage are just the ticket for a wet, hot Torontonian summer.
