Here are our picks for the hottest concerts in Toronto this April.

Saya

April 13 at The Baby G (1608 Dundas St. W.)

Toronto native Saya is a relative newcomer to the city’s music scene, having dropped her debut single “Wet Dreams” last year. Her sound straddles the lines between pop, R&B, and hip-hop, while also pulling influences from jazz, funk, and disco. We predict big things to come for the twenty-one year old.

PJ Harvey

April 13 at Massey Hall (178 Victoria St.)

It’s been a long time since PJ Harvey last graced a North American stage, making her Toronto show a must see. The UK singer-songwriter released her ninth studio album, The Hope Six Demolition Project, last April, which earned her a Grammy nod for Best Alternative Music Album (David Bowie’s Blackstar won the category). She kicks off her tour right here at Massey Hall before making her way to Montreal.

Explosions in the Sky

April 23 at Rebel (11 Polson St.)

After embarking on an extensive world tour last year, Texas post-rock outfit Explosions in the Sky are going back on the road in support of their latest album, The Wilderness – easily their best since 2003’s critically acclaimed The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place. Toronto is the lone Canadian stop on their North American tour, which includes shows in Los Angeles, Nashville, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

Skepta

April 26 at Rebel (11 Polson St.)

Fresh off a guest appearance on Drake’s More Life project, Skepta will touch down in Toronto as part of his “Banned from America” tour, which also features festival appearances at Coachella, Governors Ball, and Bonnaroo. The UK grime MC and producer has released four studio albums to date, with his latest, Konnichiwa, winning the 2016 Mercury Prize.

Lydia Ainsworth

April 26 at The Garrison (1197 Dundas St. W.)

Toronto’s Lydia Ainsworth makes music that’s both beautiful and haunting, merging her classical background with other-worldly synthetic sounds, dark electropop, and R&B. Her sophomore album, Darling of the Afterglow, which was released in January, sees her grow even more as an artist and includes an excellent cover of Chris Isaak’s 1989 hit “Wicked Game.”
