How do you sum up a person in less than 40 minutes? Especially a young woman who, shortly after graduating high school, went from All-American cheerleader to Sergeant in a humvee in Iraq to tattooed, protesting Vet suffering with PTSD and other combat injuries? Director Sara Nisson succeeds in this sparing documentary that provides a moving glimpse into the life of this young veteran. Her subject is Robynn Murray, whose journey from the cover of Army magazine to protests against the war has been filled with acute pain and anxiety, but also love and self-discovery. As Robynn exorcises her demons through her art and her activism, Nisson captures a courageous young women struggling to survive a complex and twisted national narrative.
