It’s safe to say that there’s a lot about this job that gets me excited. Labels. Parties. Fashion shows. Sales. Finding all of those in one place? Madness you say? Think again ‘cuz it all came together at the Yonge Street consignment store Haute Classics, where you could shop, sip champagne, take advantage of seriously low prices and watch a fashion show all in one adorably chic store.
BFF’s Stella Kim and Jina Han opened Haute Classics almost a year ago with visions of vintage finds and classic labels dancing in their heads. Their motto ‘It’s in the mix’ is a mantra of bringing together old and new for some truly kick ass looks.
This event was a kick off to Frugal Fashion Week which FFW founder Gillian Downes describes as a time to shop, shop, shop! “It’s to encourage people to shop anywhere and support both local shops and big box stores from overseas because they create jobs!” she says. “I found Haute Classics on Twitter and loved their hot pink ads so I came in and just knew it was the perfect place to do a fun show.”
The runway was styled by Stella Kim and Jina Han and celebrity stylist Luis Zulayhka (who has styled for Glass Magazine, Plaid Magazine and Darryl London) was the spokesperson. Zulayhka dressed the models and described the outfits as they posed in the window of the store. He was also great when the pace slowed down and was left at the window alone talking about his many projects. The audience had a great sense of humour and loved him for being so calm under pressure.
The looks included pieces by Diane Von Furstenberg, Elizabeth & James, Alexander Wang, Coach, Hermes and many, maaaaany more delicious labels. All of which are available in the store for incredible prices.
This writer may have even left with a purchase or two.
