There are few things more Canadian than lacing up your skates with friends and fam in the wintertime. This January, The Bentway wants you to do just that AND MORE during their inaugural winter season.

SO. What’s it all about? The Bentway is a unique and innovative public space that transforms 1.75km underneath Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway (from Strachan Avenue to Bathurst Street) into a new gathering place for Torontonians, transforming the way we experience art and culture downtown.

The Bentway Skate Trail is the very first section to be developed and officially opens to the public Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11am. Bring the fam and enjoy art installations, food and drink, performances from singer/songwriter Charmie Deller and composer/performer Carmen Braden, demonstrations of Ice Breaking (a unique hybrid of break dancing and freestyle ice skating by the Toronto Ice Skate Group), pop-up curling, and free admission to Fort York National Historic Site.

The opening weekend will also host the Mayor’s Skate Party on Sunday, January 7, 1-4pm with Mayor Tory and members of Toronto City Council. Complimentary skate rentals and hot chocolate will be available during the event.

The Bentway Skate Trail will run from January 6th to mid-March, 2018. Other winter programming will include free Monday night skate rentals, Friday night Beats and Bents skate parties with a rotating cast of DJs, skate instruction and DJ and Ice Breaking workshops. Don’t miss out!
