Members of the OCAD Student Union and Younger Than Beyoncé‎ Gallery are coming together to raise funds for families affected by the Pulse Nightclub shootings in Orlando.

The events of June 12th, 2016 are still felt by those who were close to the victims, as well as those who survived the terror. Expenses like hospital bills and funerary services are adding strain to the trauma and the loss of a safe space is still experienced collectively – you can see it in the increased bag checks at Pride events here at home.

Members of the Latinx community, as well as allies, are invited to LATINXO: a fundraiser and celebration of intersectionality, and a healing dance floor for those who are hurting. The fundraiser will take place this Friday, July 8th, at 7 PM at Younger Than Beyoncé Gallery at 563 Dundas St. Suite 201.

The event has drawn artists and collaborators committed to strengthening a growing Latin American movement of trans, gender non-conforming, queer and two-spirit Latinx people pushing social and political boundaries. The evening will feature music by Latin House DJs Daniel Morales and Felipe Nadeau, as well as an opening performance by trans post-rock performance artist Carolina Brown. Works by Latin artists, including nationally acclaimed Francisco Fernando Granados, will be on display in the gallery.

Tickets can be purchased online through Eventbrite for $10, and a portion of the tickets will be saved and sold at the door on a sliding scale. Nobody will be turned away from the event due to a lack of funds. Accessibility has been considered, and the event can be accessed through an elevator. Washrooms are also accessible and marked gender neutral.
