When they told us they were building a big gingerbread house, we kind of thought dollhouse size but the house built by the cheery elves at Loblaws could certainly accommodate Snow White and the seven dwarves or, perhaps more fitting, Hansel and Gretel. But the house was built with Santa in mind; he’s moving in starting Friday, November 30th.

Are you a doubter? Do you not believe this is an edible house? It is. Lick it. (WAIT, DON’T DO THAT!) Over 700 pounds of candy were used to build this masterpiece including heaps of jelly beans, swedish berries and 5000 mini candy canes! Holy holly, is this for real? Yes and the only thing that could possibly make it better is if Elf himself led little girls and boys down the candy lane to meet Santa. Alas, he will not but friendly elves will be on hand to help snap pics and teach kidlets how to make gingerbread men/women cookies. The cookies cost $2 and all proceeds will be donated to the President’s Choice Children’s Charity. What fun!

Besides giving back, Loblaws is just plain givin’ it! On November 30th, to mark their one year anniversary (Felicitaciones!) Loblaws Maple Leaf Gardens will open their doors at 7 a.m. and the prizes for the first 400 customers range from yummy treats from the store or even one prize for $5,000 worth of Loblaws gift cards!

On December 2nd, from 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m, kids are invited to Breakfast with Santa at the PC Cooking School. Pancakes, syrup, biscuits with jam and more will be on offer. This little adventure also costs $10 and you can register your lil’ chef here.

The whimsical gingerbread house will be on display all month long. On weekends, you’ll find Santa chilling inside next to the fireplace, where children are invited in to share their holiday wishes and get snapped with the happy old guy from the North Pole.

Let the big house inspire you to find some fun ingredients to build your very own sweet home.
