Why we like: Unless you live under a rock, you’ve been influenced in some way by [FAT] over the past few weeks – this includes the escalation of hype prior to the event, as well as digesting the concentrated creativity that your city has to offer. For all of you rock dwellers out there, [FAT] aka. Toronto Alternative Fashion Week was a tribute to the vast creativity entrenched in Toronto.  Although I was unable to take part in the daily festivities, I was deeply touched and inspired by The School of Fashion’s Mass Exodus 2008 held at Ryerson Theatre.

Looking back at my University career, I now feel completely inept.  Where creativity spawned in the classroom at Ryerson, I was keenly writing last-minute papers on Marshall McLuhan. The fashion show was entirely professional down to the last detail, and all ensembles were brilliant – alas I am still unable to sew a button.

What you’ll find there: I will be an annual attendee to Mass Exodus from here on in.  If you missed out on the festivities; bios, and highlights of several designer’s work have been provided. Warning: Individuals prone to incompetence should steer clear – you will only feel worse.

Where in the world: Toronto, of course.

In a nutshell: A look at the provocative future of fashion, and the brains behind the beauty.
