The latest crop of National Circus School graduates will display their acrobatic and artistic prowess at TOHU (Tohu, 2345 Jarry St) from May 31 to June 12. Before striking out in careers in big tops across the globe, the recent grads will put on two shows for the circus-loving public: Messa and Pomme Grenade.

Messa features the antics of cult-worshipping squatters who find peace by “pushing the physical and psychological envelope, with liberating movement and ecstatic gesture.” Pomme Grenade follows the journey of a soldier who blocks out the horrors of wars by escaping into childhood memories.

Despite the heavy-sounding themes, these shows deliver a hearty dose of whimsy. Expect incredible feats of strength and flexibility, along with flipping, swooping, hula hooping, and yes, unicycling!

The circus school’s annual show is extremely popular: the first three shows are already sold out and tickets (starting at $21, or $15 for kids 12 and under) for the rest are sure to go quickly. Reserve yours by calling514-376-8648 or visit www.tohu.ca.
