Bike rides are one of my favorite things about summer time, and judging by the amount of cyclists on the Seawall yesterday, about 89% of the city’s population will agree. There is something so satisfying about passing by the sweat-beaded snarls in idle B-Line buses. Traffic-weaving, hair blowing in the breeze, enjoying the misfortune of others. I am a horrible person hoping to make it up to the universe with this post.

Don’s Bicycle Recycle Depot (2255 W Broadway) is an environmentally friendly recycling solution designed to keep old bicycles out of local landfills and get them into the hands of miserable transit goers and less fortunate families (who may be equally as sweaty and miserable as said commuters, due to an increase in cyclist clientele for Ice Cream trucks has resulted in them accelerating their service speeds beyond the grasp of those on foot).

Don will pick up any and all bikes at your door for free, and use the stuff that works to build up new ones for those in need. He has been helping out the bike community for years and is also the owner of Rideon and Rideonagain Bike shops. His experience ensures you will see your bike reconditioned professionally and effectively. Even if your bike is a piece of shit, he guarantees anything that can’t be used will get to a proper recycling facility.

We have come to think of bikes as a green alternative, but it’s important to remember that they have a life beyond their intended function and need to be disposed of properly.

If you are a bike enthusiast: odds are your wheels have evolved to bigger and better things over the years and you have a section of your garage overcrowded with old parts.

If you are a moral person: odds are you like to help others.

If you are both: give Don a call 604-736-7433 or go to vancouverbicyclerecycling.com
